"Black Hole Weather" aims to unify the astrophysics of supermassive black hole (SMBH) feeding and feedback within cosmic structures, in one comprehensive theory that leverages high-performance MHD simulations, fundamental gas/plasma physics, and multiwavelength observations. We tackle key challenges of modern astrophysics: what is the evolution of the macro-scale condensation out of the hot halos; how such multiphase rain (Chaotic Cold Accretion) is fed down through the SMBH horizon; how matter is re-ejected back by the SMBH and deposited via jets, multiphase outflows, and radiation; what is the role of turbulence, conduction, dust, and transport processes; and how the self-regulated SMBH feeding-feedback loop shapes galaxies and clusters/groups of galaxies through cosmic time.

Roughly 60% of the total team members of BHW is direct INAF personnel. As it includes several leaders in the respective fields and given the current status, over each year it is safe to extrapolate that each INAF member will have an active/accepted PI-ship of at least one computational or observational proposal. The related facilities involved are listed in the Section 20 below, with each member expertise detailed in Sections 15-16.
