La formazione della Via Lattea come paradigma delle galassie spirali e' una questione fondamentale nella astrofisica moderna. Molte sono ancora le domande aperte: diverse popolazioni stellari hanno davvero origini diverse? Quale e'la importanza relativa dei processi interni (formazione stellare in situ, evoluzione secolare del disco, ecc) ed esterni (accrescimento di galassie, di gas...) nel formare la Galassia? Le Survey spettroscopiche WEAVE Galactic Archaeology (ammassi, disco, alone, galassie nane) al WHT si propongono di rispondere a queste domande con 5 anni (+2) di osservazione e piu' di 7 milioni di spettri
Many questions remain open in understanding how the complex structure of the Milky Way was
assembled, with its stellar populations occupying a bulge, a thin and thick disc and a halo. Whether the
different stellar populations have truly different origins, what the relative importance is of internal
(in-situ star formation, secular evolution of the disc, etc.) and external (accretion of galaxies, gas
accretions, etc.) processes in forming and shaping the Galaxy are questions to which the WEAVE@WHT Spectroscopic Galactic Archaeology surveys (clusters, disk, halo, dwarf galaxies) tries to find answers observing more than 7 millions of stellar spectra in 5(+2) years

<p>The role of INAF in the Instrument Consortium is described in the form WEAVE-0. INAF researchers are actively involved in several sub-surveys, from the disk, the halo, to the globular/open clusters, and the dwarf galaxies. Antonella Vallenari is the Italian PI and member of the Executive Board. She is the PI of the WEAVE survey Open Clusters. Angela Bragaglia is the Co-PI of the Open cluster survey, and member of the Survey Working Group in charge of the preparation of the observations. Sara Lucatello is the leader of the Calibration Working Group. Ricardo Carrera is member of the Quality Control Group in charge of validate the survey results. A. Antonio Frasca is the leader of young star pipeline, serving not only the OC survey but also the WEAVE Galactic Plane Survey (SCIP)<br></p>

The Total cost to INAF to 2020 refers to the cost of the WEAVE-GA Science Consortium for survey preparation activities, excluding the activities already included in WEAVE-0 (pipeline preparation and validation). The INAF total cost refers to support operations and scientific exploitation. Tabella fondi refers to the cost of the WEAVE-1 part of the project. It includes 2 TD FTEs/y and costs for missions, hardware.
