CAMLAB 2.0 è un progetto finanziato dall’Agenzia Spaziale Europea (ESA) che mira a realizzare un prodotto commerciale di una microbilancia di nuova concezione per applicazioni di laboratorio al fine di caratterizzare l’outgassing in vuoto dei materiali. Le prime due fasi del programma porteranno alla realizzazione di un breadboard che sarà testato in ambiente rilevante simulando processi di outgassing/contaminazione. Il sensore è formato da 2 cristalli di quarzo, resistori integrati (riscaldatore e sensore di temperatura), modulo Peltier ed elettronica di prossimità. La durata della prima fase del progetto è di un anno. La documentazione tecnica prodotta, il breadboard del sensore e 10 coppie di cristalli saranno consegnati ad ESA alla fine del progetto.
CAMLAB 2.0 Project is supported by European Space Agency (ESA) and aims to develop a new microbalance device for laboratory applications in order to characterize the materials outgassing processes. The first two phases of the program will bring to the realization of a new concept of quartz crystal microbalance breadboard that will be tested in relevant environment by simulating outgassing processes. The sensor head will includes a reference and a sensing 10 MHz crystals, each equipped with two built-in resistors, a Peltier module and the related Proximity Electronic.
The first phase duration of this program is 1 year. At the end, the technical documentations produced, the QCM breadboard and 10 additional crystals pairs will be delivered to ESA.

Attività di trasferimento tecnologico
INAF-IAPS will coordinates the overall CAMLAB2.0 Project in particular the Task 2: “Manufactirng and Testing” and the Task3: “Planning” and will be responsible for the instruments testing and documentation delivery. INAF will also manage the activities between Politecnico di Milano and CNR-IIA, i.e. the two other partners involved for VISTA development. The INAF-IAPS Team has strong heritage obtained during MarcoPolo-R Mission study (2013-2014), ESA-ITT Contamination Assessment Microbalance (CAM) (2014-2016) which goals was to develop a new QCM-based device for molecular contamination monitoring in space for the future ESA sensitive payloads (3 breadboards and one EM have been developed) and ESA-ITT Contamination Assessment Microbalance for LABoratory (CAMLAB) (2017-2019) Project, which goals was to develop a new QCM laboratory breadboard for outgassing processes monitoring in thermos-vacuum chamber in laboratory.
INAF testing facilities • HVT1600, chamber for qualification tests of thermo-vacuum, placed in a clean room of class 10000, with 1600 liters of volume, minimum pressure of 10e-7 mbar and temperatures from -65°C; • CRV mini-chamber (10L) for QCM functionality and performance test, temperature range from -150°C up to 100°C and minimum pressure of 10e-6 mbar; • Chemical hood for sample preparation; • Dedicated storage chamber for chemical/organics samples; • CRV Micro-chambers (5L) for QCM testing; • QCM Control Unit (DaQ system and PCB boards); PoliMI Testing facilities • Acceleration measurement with piezoelectric accelerometers; • Velocity measurement, two laser Doppler vibrometers; • Displacement measurement, resistive, eddy current, LVDT and laser transducers, with measuring ranges from 2 to 250 mm; • Strain measurement, conditioning system for ER strain gauges, dynamic measurement with bandwidth up to 30 kHz; • Force transducers, piezoelectric and strain gauge based, ranges from 10 N to 10 kN, single axis and tri-axial; • Vibration testing set-up, electrodynamic shaker and controller for sine, random and shock testing; • Temperature measurement for RTD and thermocouples, micro-bolometric IR camera; • Thermostatic bath for thermometer calibration, ethylene glycol fluid with forced stirring; • Thermo-vacuum chamber for mechanical testing of components; CNR testing facilities • Clean room; • Mask Aligner AL4-2: The Electronic Vision Group AL4-2 for optical lithograph; • NPP POLOS (SPIN150i): single wafer spin coaters; • Balzers 510 Evaporation System: The Evaporation System has an electron beam and a thermal evaporation sources. (SiOx);
