VISTA (Volatile In-Situ Thermogravimeter Analyzer) è il payload secondario del cubesat MILANI a bordo dello spacecraft di HERA e avrà lo scopo di rilevare la presenza di particelle di polvere inferiori a 5-10 µm; caratterizzazione di volatiles e dei composti organici (es. acidi carbossilici) e di monitorare la contaminazione molecolare a supporto di altri strumenti sensibili. MILANI verrà rilasciato dopo la fase di cruise di HERA mentre i due payload a bordo, ovvero lo spettrometro ASPECT e il termogravimetro VISTA avranno due mesi per caratterizzare l'ambiente asteroidale e la sua superficie.
VISTA (Volatile In-Situ Thermogravimeter Analyser) is the secondary payload of MILANI cubesat on-board HERA spacecraft and will aim to detect the presence of dust particles smaller than 5-10 µm; the volatiles (e.g., water) and light organics characterization (e.g., carboxylic acids with low carbon chain) and to monitor the contamination processed in support to other instruments. MILANI will be released after the HERA spacecraft cruise phase and the two payload on-board, i.e. ASPECT spectrometer and VISTA thermogravimeter will have two months to characterize the asteroidal environment and its surface.

In the HERA-MILANI scenario, INAF will coordinates all the activities related to VISTA design and development, will be responsible for the instruments (EM and FM) qualification tests for flight and the responsible for instruments and documentation delivery. INAF will also manage the activities between Politecnico di Milano and CNR-IIA, i.e. the two other partners involved for VISTA development. The strong Heritage obtained by Team during MarcoPolo-R Mission study (2013-2014), ESA-ITT Contamination Assessment Microbalance (CAM) (2014-2016) which goals was to develop a new QCM-based device for molecular contamination monitoring in space for the future ESA sensitive payloads and ESA-ITT Contamination Assessment Microbalance for LABoratory (CAMLAB) (2017-2019) Project which goals was to develop a new QCM laboratory breadboard for outgassing processes monitoring in thermos-vacuum chamber in laboratory, would be useful for VISTA FM developing for HERA mission.
IAPS-INAF FACILITIES - HVT1600, Pmin=10e-7 mbar, Tmin= -65°C; - CRV mini-chamber, Trange: -150°C up to 100°C and Pmin= 10e-6 mbar; - Chemical hood for sample preparation and storage chamber; - CRV micro-chambers, Pmin=10e-5mbar; - QCM Control Unit (DaQ system and NI boards). Third party’s concepts/products relevant to the activity and/or to be used for VISTA-HERA development by VISTA Consortium: - Mask Aligner for optical lithography (e.g. Electronic Vision Group AL4-2); - Evaporation System used for thin film metal evaporation (Cr, Ti, Au, Ni, Pd); - Piezoelectric accelerometers measurement system; - Laser Doppler vibrometers velocity measurement; - Thermal bath facility for resistors temperature calibration; - Vibration testing system.
