We propose an innovative solution based on Quartz Crystal Microbalance (QCM) sensor with a high potential for impact in the aerospace market. This sensor relies on the QCM sensors developed at INAF-IAPS, based on ThermoGravimeter Analysis (TGA), a technique used to investigate deposition/sublimation and absorption/desorption processes of volatile compounds in different environments. Its aerospace application would consist in monitoring the outgassing of materials and measuring volatiles and particulate contamination of spacecrafts and payloads.

Space vehicle instruments
<p>The sensors developed by INAF team are capable of measuring masses with a sensitivity of a billionth of a gram, are miniaturized and provided with an even remote real-time control. Compared to other sensors on the market, the sensors produced by proposing team will offer greater manoeuvrability and portability, a better temperature accuracy and the possibility of distinguishing the type of contaminant.</p><p><span style="font-family: var(--bs-font-sans-serif); font-size: 1rem;">The INAF QCMs developed sensors showed many advantages with respect to QCM sensors currently available on the aerospace market:</span><br></p><p>1) miniaturized thermomechanical structure;</p><p>2) remote real-time temperature control with high accuracy (<0.1°C);</p><p>3) capability to identify the type of contaminants by using TGA technique;</p><p>4) user-friendly configuration allowing an easy management.</p><p>Thanks to its innovative technological characteristics and its large range of applications, potentially including terrestrial ones (monitoring of dusty pollutant emission, as well as corrosive materials damaging cultural heritage and electronic devices), the QCM-sensors developed during CAM and CAMLAB projects received many awards.</p><p><br></p>
