Il telescopio solare collegato allo spettrografo HARPS-N ha osservato il Sole dall'estate del 2015. Ha lo scopo di comprendere l'effetto delle disomogeneità superficiale sulle velocità radiali (RV) ottenendo misurazioni precise della RV dell'intero disco del Sole. Questo approccio all'osservazione del Sole come una stella ci consente di correlare direttamente qualsiasi cambiamento nelle disomogeneità della superficie osservate dai satelliti solari con le variazioni della RV dell'intero disco.
The solar telescope connected to HARPS-N has observed the Sun since the summer of 2015. It is aimed to understand the effect of surface inhomogeneities on radial velocities (RV) by obtaining precise full-disk RV measurements of the Sun. This approach of observing the Sun as a star allows us to directly correlate any change in surface inhomogeneities observed by solar satellites with variations in the full-disk RV.

INAF is involved into the HARPS-N solar telescope through the Fundación Galileo Galilei. In addtion, researches from the observatories of Palermo, Catania, or Torino are active members of the solar-telescope working group. Note this project is not the only one to feed full-disk sunlight into a high-precision spectrograph. However, it was the first one to observe the Sun using exactly the same instrumental configuration as for other HARPS-N targets (allowing for a direct comparison between solar and stellar spectra). Following the successful experience of this telescope, another solar telescope has been developed for the GIANO-B spectrograph (LOCNES) .
