IXPE è una missione
NASA- ASI. Il piano di rilevazione e’ realizzato in Italia. Misura la
polarizzazione lineare per effetto fotoelettrico in raggi X. La polarimetria e’
risolta spazialmente con un HEW <30 ', temporalmente con una accuratezza di
1-2 μs e spettralmente con risoluzioni energetiche del 16% a 6 keV. La
missione, lanciata il 9 dicembre 2021 ha almeno 2 anni di vita. Si sta
approvando una estensione da Febbraio 2024 fino al 2025. INAF ha la PI-ship
italiana, la gestione a terra ed in orbita dello strumento, la progettazione,
implementazione e test del sistema di calibrazione di bordo e nella calibrazione
a terra. INAF e' capofila del topical working group delle pulsar e pulsar wind
nebulae e collabora con INFN, NASA-MSFC, Ball, Roma Tre e Stanford University.







IXPE is a NASA mission in partneship with ASI It measures the angle and
degree of linear polarization by means of the photoelectric effect
in gas. Polarimetry is spatially resolved with a HEW <30 ',
temporally with an accuracy of 1-2 μs and spectrally with energy resolutions of 16%
at 6 keV. The mission flown on 9th December 2021 with at least of 2 years of life. An extension from February 2024 to 2025 has been requested to NASA. INAF is involved by means of the Italian PI-ship and in the management (ground and flight) of the
instrument, in the design and testing of the on-board calibration system and in
the ground calibration of the detection system. INAF collaborates with INFN,
NASA-MSFC, Ball Roma Tre and Stanford University

<p>Il responsabile scientifico italiano (Paolo Soffitta) ed il project Scientist italiano (Fabio Muleri), l’ instrument project manager (Francesco Santoli), il responsabile del project office (Ettore Del Monte) ed il responsabile delle attivita’ di Assembly Integration and Test (AIV, Alessio Trois) dello strumento sono INAF. L’INAF ha co-progettato con l’ INFN il rivelatore sensibile alla polarizzazione. Presso l’ INAF sono state, poi effettuate le calibrazioni delle Detector Units, cruciali per questa missione essendo, questa, una missione di discovery. Inoltre l’ INAF ha progettato e realizzato le sorgenti di calibrazione di bordo. Per lo sfruttamento scientifico, l’ INAF e’ rappresentato da 31 ricercatori inclusi 4 associati. Dal punto di vista astrofisico l’ INAF ha la leadership del gruppo delle Pulsar Wind Nebulae &amp; Pulsar (Niccolo’ Bucciantini) Un associato INAF (G. Matt Universita' Roma Tre), e’ co-chair del Science Advisory Team (SAT). </p><p><br></p>
