L'obiettivo principale di questo progetto è lo sfruttamento delle survey in corso con i precursori/pathfinders di SKA per studi di formazione e co-evoluzione di galassie e buchi neri. Le survey radio di nuova generazione non offrono soltanto uno strumento sensibile per studiare la formazione stellare e l'attivita' nucleare nelle galassie, ma possono anche fornire simultaneamente informazioni sulla riga HI, consentendo di investigare le relazioni tra formazione di nuove stelle, gas neutro e processi di alimentazione e feedback degli AGN in funzione del tempo cosmico. Riunendo in se' una vasta gamma di competenze (tecniche di interferometria radio, analisi multi-banda, modellizzazione e simulazioni), questo gruppo è in una posizione ideale per sfruttare queste survey in vista di SKA.

The main objective of this project is the exploitation of ongoing surveys with SKA pathfinders and precursors for galaxy and super massive black hole formation and co-evolution studies. New-generation extra-galactic radio surveys not only offer sensitive, dust-/gas-insensitive tracers of star formation and nuclear accretion, but can also simultaneously provide HI line information, enabling combined studies of star formation and HI in galaxies across time, as well as investigations of AGN fueling/feedback processes. This group is actively involved and has leading roles in several legacy surveys. Bringing together a wide range of expertise (radio interferometry techniques, multi-band analysis, modeling and simulations), it is in an ideal position to exploit these surveys towards the SKA.

21. Fondi a Sostegno Iniziativa

This project is the result of collaborations established in the framework of funded projects, like the PRIN INAF 2009 (intended to provide initial funding for the eMERGE survey), the PRIN SKA/CTA "FoRECAST" (and in particular its WP 2: Galaxy Formation and Evolution), the MAIN STREAM project "SaUROS" (mainly focused on modeling) and two bilateral projects funded by the MAECI, aimed at covering traveling and other expenses for scientific collaborations involving Italy and South Africa (like e.g. the MIGHTEE survey). In 2022 this group submitted a proposal for an INAF Large Grant, to support the team activity in the framework of LOFAR (LoTSS-Deep) and MeerKAT (MIGHTEE) legacy surveys. The awarded funding (178 kEu in total) is partly associated to this form (50%) and partly to the LOFAR-It form (50%). In addition this group can count on a dedicated multi-core computer at INAF-IRA for MeerKAT data analysis, that will be acquired thanks to the funding obtained in the framework of the PNRR STILES (25 kEu; see STILES form).
