The combination of exquisite photometry from the ongoing space missions (Kepler/K2, TESS, Gaia) and high-resolution spectroscopy from ground-based facilities is a unique opportunity to address the long standing problem of the generation and evolution of magnetic fields in stars. By means of state-of-the-art modeling and asteroseismology it is now possible to study the dependence of the Rossby number, the fundamental parameter of dynamo, on astrophysical parameters like mass and chemical composition for a significant number of stars and thus shed light on the internal mechanism which triggers the dynamo. We anticipate that our results will be of crucial relevance to fully exploit the scientific output of the ESA PLATO and Gaia missions.
