Il progetto si propone continuare l’attività di R&D su spettro-polarimetri di CZT con risoluzione spaziale 3D, e in particolare di complentare e qualificare il prototipo realizzato nel progetto 3DCaTM (accordo ASI/INAF n. 2017 14-H.O.) con innovativi sensori di CZT (3DCZT), implementando miglioramenti ricavati dall’esperienza maturata (perfezionamento del sensore del e dell'elettronica di front-end) e in base ai risultati ottenuti dal volo su pallone stratosferico, effettuato con successo in settembre 2022 da Kiruna (Svezia), dell’esperimento BADG3R basato su un singolo sensore 3DCZT. Il prototipo finale sarà dettagliatamente qualificato (imaging, spettroscopia e polarimetria) sia con campagne di test presso le facilities di ESRF e del LARIX, che nei laboratori disponibili al gruppo.
The project intends to carry on the R&D activity on CZT spectro-polarimeters with 3D spatial resolution, and in particular to complete and qualify the prototype developed in the 3DCaTM project (ASI/INAF agreement n. 2017 14-H.O.) with innovative CZT sensors (3DCZT), implementing improvements derived from the experience gained (refinement of the sensor and front-end electronics) and based on the results obtained from the stratospheric balloon flight, successfully carried out in September 2022 by Kiruna (Sweden), of the BADG3R experiment based on a single 3DCZT sensor. The final prototype will be qualified in detail (imaging, spectroscopy and polarimetry) both with test campaigns at the ESRF and LARIX facilities, and also in the laboratories available to the proposing team.

<p>High energy astrophysics (hard X and soft gamma); R&D; Development and qualification of high energy detectors.</p><p>This activity is strictly connected to the one described in the BADG3R (BAlloon launched Detector for Gamma-rays with 3 dimensional Resolution) , daughter ITPAYLOAD-0 Development of Italian payloads for European infrastructure HEMERA.</p><p>This activity, together with other projects, is part of a more general research program called "Focusing gamma-ray astronomy: science and technology";</p>
<p><span id="docs-internal-guid-1bb4f552-7fff-42f7-2671-2ebc34afe4e3"></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.475;margin-right: 6.45pt;text-align: justify;margin-top:1.9pt;margin-bottom:0pt;"><span style="font-size:10pt;font-family:Calibri,sans-serif;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:400;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre;white-space:pre-wrap;">Since the nineties, the research group currently part of INAF has been carrying out a line of research and development of new detectors for astronomy in hard X- and soft gamma-rays based on semiconductor detectors at room temperature. The activity since 2010 has focused particularly, in collaboration with Italian groups (IMEM/CNR, University of Palermo) and the DTU (Denmark), on the development of CZT spectrometers with 3D spatial resolution. In this perspective and context, the INAF group has participated as coordinator or with roles of significant importance in various projects financed by various agencies /institutions (ASI, MIUR, INAF, CNR) and in various proposals for ideas of space missions with detectors based on these technologies. Moreover it must be considered that an advanced detector with these characteristics and fully qualified will be one of the first realized in the international context. Our group was also one of the firsts to propose the use of CZT spectro-imagers as scattering polarimeters in the hard X and soft gamma ray regime.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.295;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:8pt;"><span id="docs-internal-guid-5edd4ffd-7fff-c65d-ff1b-41d0e62610a1"><br></span></p>
