Questo progetto verte sullo studio della relazione tra clima ed abitabilità esoplanetaria, e tocca cinque argomenti. Per esopianeti di tipo terrestre, (1) feedback tra vegetazione ed albedo superficiale, con estensione del limite esterno della zona abitabile circumstellare (CHZ), e (2) feedback tra vegetazione e ciclo breve del carbonio, con estensione del limite interno della CHZ. Per pianeti con alto indice di similarità terrestre orbitanti attorno a stelle di tipo M, (3) studio dello spazio dei parametri per una stima omogenea dell’abitabilità, e (4) condizioni per la sopravvivenza di specie competitive di cianobatteri e microalghe nella CHZ. (5) Estensione e analisi del database ARTECS per la simulazione dei climi esoplanetari.
This project focuses on the relationship between climate and habitability on exoplanets, and encompasses five topics. For Earth-like exoplanets, (1) vegetation-albedo feedback, and consequent extension of the external limit of the circumstellar habitable zone (CHZ), and (2) feedback between vegetation and fast carbon cycle, and consequent extension of the internal limit of the CHZ. For planets with high Earth-Similarity Index orbiting around M stars, (3) study of the parameter space for a homogenous estimate of liquid-water habitability, and (4) conditions for the survival of competing species of cyanobacteria and microalgae in the CHZ. (5) Extension and analysis of the database ARTECS for simulating exoplanetary climates.

<p align="justify">The research project is largely based on INAF personnel, mainly at OATS, with different external collaborations at other research institutes. Since the beginning, we have benefited from the collaboration with climatologists from the CNR-IGG, Pisa, and from the Polytechnic of Turin. Given the highly multidisciplinary topic, we started a collaboration also with the Astrobiology Center in Madrid (CAB) and the Department of Biology of the University of Padua.<br></p>
