Il programma mira a sviluppare metodi per analizzare le mappe di luminosità dei resti di supernova al fine di studiare i processi fisici legati alla termalizzazione e ionizzazione del plasma, all'accelerazione ed emissione dei raggi cosmici, alla magnetoidrodinamica dei flussi, nonché alla determinazione delle strutture tridimensionali di densità, composizione chimica, campo magnetico, così come della loro evoluzione ed interazione. La nostra idea è quella di trattare diversi tipi di immagini: mappe di luminosità superficiale dalla banda radio alla banda gamma, distribuzioni spaziali dei parametri di Stokes, ecc. L'approccio metodologico include sia l'analisi diretta delle osservazioni che simulazioni magnetoidrodinamiche tridimensionali accoppiate alla sintesi degli osservabili.

The program aims in developing methods to analyse brightness maps of supernova remnants in order to study the physical processes related to thermalization and ionization of plasma, to acceleration and electro-magnetic emission of cosmic rays, to magneto-hydrodynamics of flows, as well as to determination of the three-dimensional structures of density, chemical composition, magnetic field, as also their interactions and evolution. Our idea is to deal with different kinds of astrophysical images: surface brightness maps from radio to gamma-ray bands, spatial distributions of Stokes parameters, etc. The methodological approach includes both direct analysis of the observational data and massive three-dimensional magneto-hydrodynamic simulations coupled to the synthesis of observables.

To date, we the project was partially funded from the following projects: i) “Filling the gap between supernova explosions and their remnants through MHD modelling and high performance computing” (2015-2017; PI S. Orlando) funded by INAF in the framework of PRIN-INAF 2014; ii) "High-energy processes and manifestations of new physics in astrophysical gamma ray sources" (2021-2023; Co-I O.Petruk) funded by Ministry of Education and Science, Ukraine; iii) "Analysis of observational data from the space-based gamma- and X-ray observatories" (2018-2020; PI O.Petruk) funded by National Academy of Sciences, Ukraine; iv) "Evolution of radio emission from the remnant of supernova 1987A by magnetohydrodynamic modeling and comparison with the observations" (PI O. Petruk) funded in the frame of Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions. We are also applying for an INAF Theory Grant (title "Supernova remnants as probes for the structure and mass-loss history of the progenitor systems"; PI S. Orlando).
