La caratterizzazione di stelle con pianeti è di fondamentale importanza per la determinazione delle proprietà planetarie. Gli strumenti odierni da terra e dallo spazio ci permettono di misurare con accuratezza i parametri atmosferici e le abbondanze di stelle che ospitano pianeti, di derivare con precisione proprietà stellari quali massa, raggio ed età e analizzare appropriatamente il contributo dell’attività stellare. La caratterizzazione di un numero sempre più elevato di stelle con pianeti ci permetterà di studiare un numero sempre crescente di pianeti in un ampio intervallo di parametri. Avremo così la possibilità di vincolare al meglio i processi di formazione planetaria e di separare i segni lasciati sui pianeti durante la loro formazione ed evoluzione da quelli dovuti alla stella.

The characterization of planet hosting stars is of paramount importance for the determination of planetary properties. Current facilities from the ground and the space allow us to measure accurate planet hosting stellar atmospheric parameters and elemental abundances, to estimate with precision stellar properties such as mass, radius, and age, and to properly analyze stellar activity signatures. The characterization of an increasing number of stars with planets will allow us to study a more and more huge sample of planets covering a wide range of parameters. This will give us the possibility to put strong constraints on planetary formation processes and therefore to separate the signatures left on the planets during their formation and subsequent evolution from those due to the star.

Our team involves a large part of the italian community working on exoplanetary science and plays important roles in stellar characterization of exoplanet hosting stars. Members of our team have access to high-resolution facilities in the world in both hemispheres (ESPRESSO,HARPS-N,HARPS,PEPSI,LOCNES) and to space-based photometry/spectroscopy (CHEOPS,PLATO,Ariel,Gaia) through conspicuous GTO and competitively approved long-term/large programs. Many of us are involved in approved financed ERC/INAF/PRIN-MUR projects (see Sect. 21, 24 and ‘Schede figlie’). Among us, there are leaders or WP responsible for long-term/large projects (GAPS,PETS), co-PI or responsible in Italy for space missions (PLATO,Ariel), and there is who had important roles in the built of new instruments (GIARPS,LOCNES) or leading roles (PI/co-PI/Co-I,Chair,WP leader,Board/Science Team) in several ground- (HARPS-N,PEPSI,SPHERE,ESPRESSO,ANDES) and space- (CHEOPS,PLATO,Ariel,Gaia) based programs in the exoplanetary field.

21. Fondi a Sostegno Iniziativa

The EXO-Stars program does not benefit from direct funds, but it is partially supported by some approved projects. Herewith, we list an approximate amount of funds received by CHEOPS, PLATO, Ariel, THE-StellaR-PAth, TASSEL, HARPS-N/GTO, NextSTEPS, GAPS, KLN, LOCNES, Premiale WOW, and Premiale FRONTIERA within the EXO-Stars program (see those projects for the total amount). External collaborators participate with their own funds. The observations are paid by the involved infrastructures.
