The experimental set-up is composed by a special designed chamber, named PASS (Planetary Atmosphere Simulation System), suitable to be coupled to a Fourier Transform-InfraRed (FT-IR) spectrometer, or working as a stand-alone Cavity Ring Down (CRD) system and it is designed to sustain pressures in a range from vacuum up to 70 bars and temperatures ranging from 100 up to 500 K. When coupled with a FT-IR spectrometer, the chamber can be equipped with a Multi Pass (MP) absorption gas cell, characterized by an optical path of about 9 m, mounted internally. The absorption coefficients of the gases can be measured in a wide spectral range (0.4-8)microns with a spectral resolution pre-set from 0.07 to 10 cm-1.

CO2 Collisional Induced Absorption (CIA) database
Authors: S.Stefani, G. Piccioni, M. Snels, D. Biondi and A. Boccaccini
Abstract: This database is dedicated to the experimental CO2 collision induced absorption (CIA) bands in two spectral regions, [1100–1600] cm−1 and [2500–3150] cm−1. The spectra have been recorded by averaging 150 scans with a resolution of 2 cm−1 acquired for temperatures from 294 to 473 K and at pressures ranging from 1 to 40 bar. The absorption coefficients (cm-1) published in this data base have been divided in five folders, named according to the temperatures at the which the spectra have been acquired. Each folders contains two directories, the ‘’main’’ and ‘’divided’’. In the ‘’main’’ the row data can be downloaded while in the ‘’divided’’ the ascii files related to the two spectral range have been uploaded. In the last case, only a preliminary base line correction has been done, please note that some data, in between [1100-1660] cm-1 are affected by a strong water vapour absorption. The name of each file refers to the conditions (p, T) at the which the spectra have been measured.

Title: Experimental Absorption Coefficients of carbon dioxide at high pressure and high temperature
Authors: S.Stefani, G. Piccioni, M. Snels, D. Biondi and A. Boccaccini
Abstract: This data base is dedicated to the experimental CO2 absorption spectra, obtained according to a realistic vertical P-T profile, typical of the deep and middle atmosphere of Venus. These spectra have been recorded by using a Fourier Trans-form InfraRed (FT-IR) spectrometer , coupled with a gas cell, designed to support pressures up to 200 bar and temperatures up to about 600 K and characterized by an optical path of 2 cm. Each spectrum was acquired in the spectral range [800-1000] cm-1 with a resolution of 2 cm-1. In the data base on can been found the ascii file, divided by directories, ‘’middle latitude’’ and ‘’deep Atmosphere”. The name of each file refers to the conditions (p, T) at the which the spectra have been measured
Title: Preliminary results on the infrared H2-H2 and H2-He experimental collision
induced absorption coefficients
Abstract: The atmosphere of Jupiter is mainly
composed by molecular hydrogen and helium. The H2-
H2 and the H2-He Collision Induced Absorption (CIA)
represent one of the most important gaseous opacity
sources in the infrared range from 1 to 5 µm, a range
widely used by remote sensing instruments devoted to
study its atmosphere. For this reason a proper modelling along experimental data are of paramount importance in order to accurately perform absolute retrieval of abundances of minor species and estimation
of the atmospheric physical conditions from the observed radiance. In addition, a poor modelling of the CIA can alter the slopes of the synthetic spectra, impacting the retrieved mixing ratios of ammonia or aerosol properties, among the others. To overcome these limitations, we performed measurements of the CIA bands at the same or close to the physical conditions of the actual vertical atmospheric profile of Jupiter. In this work we report the preliminary results of this study

Title: Planetary Atmosphere Simulation System for Spectroscopy (PASSxS), a laboratory set up used to characterize the optical properties of gases at typical planetary conditions
Abstract: The optical properties of gases at typical planetary conditions are of major importance to provide the input parameters to the radiative transfer models, especially in the regions where the present databases lack of information. The experimental data can support either the study of our solar system bodies and also contribute significantly to the understanding of the exoplanets spectroscopy. In this work we describe this experimental set up designed to measure the optical properties of gases such as CO2, CH4, H2, H2+He or their combinations, performed in an ample range of pressure and temperature. The experimental set-up is composed by a custom vacuum double chamber, perfectly designed to be coupled to a Fourier Transform-InfraRed (FT-IR) spectrometer. The chamber is designed to sustain pressures in a range from vacuum up to 70 bar and temperatures ranging from 100 up to 500 K. The chamber is equipped with a multi pass absorption gas cell, characterized by an optical path of about 9 m, mounted in the inner part. The inner chamber is inside another vacuum vessel able to insulate thermally the gas cell. Thanks to the FTIR, the absorption coefficients of the gases can be measured in a wide spectral range (1250 - 25000 cm-1) with a spectral resolution from 0.07 to 10 cm-1. In this work we describe the setup and present preliminary results of the CO2 Fermi Triade bands measured in the IR spectral region at different densities and temperatures.
