eROSITA è un telescopio del satellite Spectrum-Roentgen-Gamma (SRG). L'obiettivo di eROSITA è lo studio della struttura a grande scala dell'Universo a partire da grandi campioni di ammassi di galassie, con lo scopo di vincolare parametri cosmologici. eROSITA rivelerà anche alcuni milioni di AGN, rivoluzionando la comprensione dell'evoluzione di buchi neri supermassici. La survey fornisce anche nuovi vincoli osservativi sull'emissione X di altri fenomeni (e.g. XRB, SNR, transienti, emissione diffusa nella Galassia). I risultati basati su 930k sorgenti rivelate in eRASS1, la prima survey di metà cielo, sono stati appena rilasciati dal consorzio tedesco. La release pubblica di immagini, prodotti e cataloghi è di enorme impatto per la comunità INAF di alte energia e cosmologia.

eROSITA is the primary instrument on the Spectrum-Roentgen-Gamma (SRG) mission. The eROSITA design driving science is the detection of large samples of galaxy clusters to study the large-scale structure of the universe and constrain  Dark Energy. eROSITA is expected also to yield a sample of a few million AGNs, revolutionizing our view of the evolution of supermassive black holes. The survey will provide new insights into a wide range of astrophysical phenomena (XRB, SNR, active stars, transients and Galactic diffuse emission). The results based on ~930k sources detected in the first half sky survey (eRASS1) have been released in 2024 by the German eROSITA consortium. The public release of images, products and catalogues is of tremendous impact for the entire Italian high-energy community.

<p style="text-align: justify;">Clearly, eROSITA is not a mission with INAF leadership. However,<b> among the few exceptions</b> (~10 out of ~200 members) from the German membership in eROSITA_DE, <b>there are three INAF personnel or associates </b>who contributed in the past (starting from 2008) to the development of the mission. </p><p style="text-align: justify;">In addition, other ~15 INAF/associate personnel so far actively contributed to the very first exploitation of the data and appear in 50% of the papers published so far from the German consortium based on CalPV or eRASS1 data (see <a href="https://erosita.mpe.mpg.de/publications/;" target="_blank">https://erosita.mpe.mpg.de/publications/</a> see also Box 23) <i>This involvement is way larger than that of any other non-German institute worldwide and witnesses the tremendous interest of the Italian community to the scientific exploitation of the mission. </i></p><p style="text-align: justify;">We anticipate that a much wider INAF community (especially all colleagues who have been at the forefront of AGN and galaxy clusters surveys in the past three decades) will benefit of the incredible wealth of new and unique data released in January 2024. This remains true even considering that it is <b>more than 2 years now that eROSITA is not taking data </b>(see Figure in box 18, and Box 24). </p>
