Il telescopio solare europeo (EST) sarà un'infrastruttura di ricerca che permetterà di rispondere a domande fondamentali della fisica solare e delle interazioni Sole-Terra. Il telescopio della classe 4m EST effettuerà osservazioni dalle Isole Canarie che potranno avanzare la nostra comprensione dei fenomeni complessi che guidano l'attività magnetica del Sole e determinano le condizioni e i processi fisici nell'intera eliosfera. La fase preparatoria del progetto EST, finanziata nell'ambito H2020 e con fondi nazionali, ha indagato gli strumenti organizzativi e sviluppato il piano dettagliato per la realizzazione di EST. Le attività svolte hanno portato al disegno dettagliato del telescopio EST e alla creazione di una fondazione per giungere all'inizio della fase di costruzione di EST.
The European Solar Telescope (EST) will be a revolutionary research infrastructure to answer fundamental questions of solar physics and Sun-Earth interactions. The 4m EST class telescope, located in the Canary Islands, will provide observations that will advance our understanding of the complex phenomena that drive the magnetic activity of the Sun, and the conditions and processes in the whole heliosphere. The PRE-EST preparatory phase, funded in the frame of H2020 and with national contributions, investigated the management of the infrastructure and developed the detailed plan for the EST realization. The developed activities led to the detailed design of the EST telescope and to the establishment of a foundation for achieving the start of the EST construction phase.

21. Fondi a Sostegno Iniziativa
Il finanziamento della CE ricevuto dal team INAF per la partecipazione al progetto PRE-EST è dedicato esclusivamente alla copertura delle spese di viaggio per prendere parte alle riunioni periodiche del progetto. Il finanziamento della CE al progetto è volto principalmente alla copertura di parte delle spese sostenute dal consorzio PRE-EST per l'istituzione e il funzionamento del "EST Project Office" presso IAC, finalizzato all'avanzamento del disegno di EST e dello sviluppo di disegni costruttivi di parti fondamentali dell'infrastruttura (struttura del telescopio, specchio primario e secondario, ottica di trasferimento, controllo termico, strumentazione scientifica).
