AGN-driven winds are one of the main mechanisms regulating galaxy evolution via feedback from the central SuperMassive BH. Studying them at the peak of cosmic activity is key to understanding AGN/galaxy co-evolution. Detectable as absorption features from ionized Fe and blueshifted by vout =0.1-0.4c, they require high-quality X-ray spectra, which is challenging already at z>0.1. Thanks to some of the largest observing programs ever approved by XMM, we have secured high-quality data of large samples of QSOs from z=0.1 to z=4. On such data, we can now test state-of-the-art wind models, which will be crucial to interpreting future high-resolution X-ray spectra (XRISM and Athena).

<p>Team members have a recognized world leadership in:</p><ul><li style="text-align: justify; "><span style="font-family: var(--bs-font-sans-serif); font-size: 1rem;"><u>SMBH UFOs:</u> the widely used acronym "UFO" was coined in the seminal papers [T10] from key team members. Several papers led by team members have greatly contributed to identifying UFOs as a ubiquitous phenomenon [C09, R09, L12, V15, M23].</span></li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u><font face="var(--bs-font-sans-serif)"><span style="font-size: 1rem;">X-ray and UV UFOs in </span></font></u><font face="var(--bs-font-sans-serif)"><span style="font-size: 1rem;"><u>high-z QSOs</u>: virtually all z>1 X-ray UFOs detections have been published by members of this team. These</span></font><span style="font-family: var(--bs-font-sans-serif); font-size: 1rem;"> results are shaping our understanding of the AGN outflow phenomenon beyond the local Universe. Now, the recently approved XMM WISSHFUL Heritage Program will revolutionize our understanding of UFOs in luminous QSOs at Cosmic Noon. Variable UV UFOs were also discovered by us in one WISSH QSO (</span>J1538+08 at z=3.6) thanks to multiple UV rest-frame spectra [V22].</li><li style="text-align: justify;"><u>Wind models:</u> Physically-motivated wind models with realistic geometry for both radiation-driven and magnetically-driven winds have been developed in recent years. Two of the most advanced wind models on the market have been developed by team members (XRADE [M22] and WINE [L19,21]). They will be tested on the high-quality data collected by the team, also in view of results of the first GO call for XRISM. </li></ul>
