VIRTUE stands for Verification and IntegRation Team for rUbin obsErvatory, and it represents the activities of the INA-S21 INAF working group that provides staff and technical support for the integration, verification and commissioning of the Vera C. Rubin observatory. Rubin is 8.4m wide-field (3.5°) telescope that will survey the whole southern sky between 320 nm and 1080 nm. The INA-S21 In-kind group is responsible for the re-verification of the secondary mirror cell throughout the phases of sub-system testing as a standalone, integration and alignment at the telescope, and during the commissioning of the system to achieve the telescope's first light. and  The activity is part of an in-kind contribution program between INAF and Aura/NOIRLab.

In 2023, the group took part in three integration and testing runs at Cerro Pachòn, and we expect a comparable (slightly higher) workload on-site for 2024, given the goal of achieving the so-called first photon with the commissioning camera ComCam. Two to three people take part in each run on-site and work in collaboration with our colleagues of the Rubin system engineering team and the technical personnel at the summit. The main&nbsp;on-site&nbsp;activity of the&nbsp;INA-S21 group is the testing campaigns for the verification of the system and sub-system requirements of the secondary mirror (M2) cell.&nbsp; When in Europe, the INA-S21 group supports the preparation of the test cases and test cycles to be conducted on the hardware on-site and support the test execution from remote. The group utilizes the software Jira as a system engineering and verification tool and the Python Jupiter Notebook environment to develop executable test scripts and data analysis scripts. The&nbsp;INA-S21 participates in two weekly calls with Rubin personnel in Chile and Tucson (Rubin headquarters) and one monthly, all-hands-on call with System Integration, Test, and Commissioning (SITCOM).&nbsp;<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p>The INAF team INA-S21 is leading the M2 cell re-verification campaign throughout the lifecycle of this subsystem following its shipment to the observing site. The activity spans from the early phase of glass-safety requirements verification using a metal mirror surrogate until the integration of the glass and the optical alignment at the telescope.&nbsp;</p>

21. Fondi a Sostegno Iniziativa

The INA-S21 1.05.03.06 is supported by the funzione obiettivo 1.05.03.06: Partecipazione LSST - Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (ref. Adriano Fontana). This funding foresees financial support of approximately 50keuro per year for a three-year period covering the years 2022-2023-2024. All the funding of the INA-S21 team is devoted to supporting the periodic shifts to Chile for the integration and commissioning run activities on-site. During 2022, NO funding has been used by INA-S21 since the integration runs started in February 2023. During 2023, the funding used by INA-S21 was approximately 40 keuro for a total of three integration runs on-site. We expect to spend the whole annual budget (50keuro) for 2024 being the year of the Rubin first photon with the commissioning camera.
