Gli Hub Regionali di Europlanet Society sostengono lo sviluppo della scienza planetaria a livello nazionale e regionale, in particolare nei paesi e nelle aree attualmente sottorappresentati all’interno della comunità. I comitati degli hub regionali organizzano eventi e workshop di networking per supportare la comunità di ricerca e creare collegamenti con astrofili, partner industriali, politici, educatori, media e pubblico in generale. I membri di Europlanet Society sono invitati a partecipare alle attività di uno o più Hub. The Europlanet Society Regional Hubs support the development of planetary science at a national and regional level, particularly in countries and areas that are currently under-represented within the community. The Regional Hub Committees organize networking events and workshops to support the research community, and build links with amateur astronomers, industrial partners, policymakers, educators, the media and the wider public. Europlanet Society members are welcome to participate in the activities of one or more Hubs. The Europlanet society promotes the advancement of European planetary science and related fields for the benefit of the community and is open to individual and organisational members. This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 871149. The Italy Hub was established in October 2018 to promote planetary science and related fields for the benefit of the Italian and European community, within the new Europlanet Society. Italy is a partner of the Europlanet Society collaborating with many different activities and also hosting the Italian Regional Hub of Europlanet. Italy participates as a beneficiary of the <a href="http://www.inaf.it/it/sedi/sede-centrale-nuova/direzione-scientifica/relazioni-internazionali/europlanet-2024-research-infrastructure" target="out" style="text-align: start;">Europlanet 2024 Research Infrastructure (RI) project</a> with different institutions:<ul><li>INAF (Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica)</li><li>Università Degli Studi Gabriele D’annunzio di Chieti-Pescara</li><li>Università di Bologna</li><li>Università di Padova.</li></ul>EPN-2024-RI represents a step-change in ambition for planetary science worldwide and it will provide the pan-EU infrastructure needed to address the major scientific and technological challenges facing modern planetary science and strengthen Europe's position at the forefront of space exploration. Before that, Italy took part in the <a href="http://www.inaf.it/it/sedi/sede-centrale-nuova/direzione-scientifica/relazioni-internazionali/programmi-quadro/schede-progetti-fp7/europlanet-ri" target="out" style="text-align: start;">Europlanet RI project</a>, which aim was to provide the European planetary science community with a unique research infrastructure including access to laboratory and field site facilities, advanced modelling, simulation and data analysis resources and to data produced by space missions and ground-based telescopes hence maximising the scientific impact of major European space missions and ground-based installations. Italy had an important role also within <a href="http://www.inaf.it/it/sedi/sede-centrale-nuova/direzione-scientifica/relazioni-internazionali/inaf-e-horizon-2020" target="out" style="text-align: start;">Horizon 2020</a>, through AstroFIt2 (Astronomy Fellowships in Italy 2), which for 5 years had supported the mobility of 18 researchers to INAF research structures in Italy for a period of 36 months.

The leadership of the hub is a researcher from INAF - OATS. The Chair of the hub is a vice-president of the society and two of the members of the executive board of the Europlanet Society are from INAF-IAPS.

The 10 Regional Hubs established to date are: Benelux (Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands), Central Europe (Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia and Slovakia); France, Germany, Ireland and UK, Italy, Northern Europe (Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden), Portugal and Spain, Southeast Europe (Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania and Serbia) and Switzerland. EPN-2024-RI project uses the Europlanet  Society Regional Hubs as a major vehicle for its dissemination, outreach and engagement with the wider community including users of its Transnational Access and Virtual Access facilities.
